War? Disaster? Lost contact with your family abroad?
When conflict or disaster strikes, communications often break down and families become separated.
As a result, people do not know where to turn to find a missing relative or how to get a message to them.

In these situations, the British Red Cross works worldwide to restore and maintain contact between families by exchanging messages between loved ones and searching for missing relatives.
The British Red Cross international tracing and message services can help with:
- Delivering family news internationally when normal means of communication have broken down due to war or disaster. This is done using a Red Cross message (RCM).
- Tracing family members internationally where the family has been separated and has lost contact due to war or disaster. These may be recent conflicts or relate to past conflicts, such as World War II.
- Handling applications for travel assistance from refugees in the UK for their close family members to be reunited with them in the UK.
- Helping to obtain confirmation of detention, where a person has been visited by the ICRC overseas.
