Legislation

It’s not only social and economic change that is driving organisations to think about managing diversity, but also new legislation.

There are six main strands of equality legislation that protect people from discrimination because of their race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion and age.

  • The Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003
  • The Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003
  • Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000
  • Human Rights Act 1998
  • Article 13 of the Treaty of Amsterdam
  • Sex Discrimination Act 1975
  • Disability Discrimination Act 1995
  • The Age Discrimination Act
