Federation/ICRC support

The British Red Cross has more than 70 delegates working overseas, mostly on secondment to the Federation or the ICRC.
They are currently active in some 30 countries around the world and come from a variety of professional backgrounds. They might be doctors or nurses working at hospitals in Pakistan and Afghanistan or logisticians making sure aid is distributed safely in Darfur.Scott Gardiner at work with members of the ICRC in Pakistan. 1 © Fred Clarke/ICRC
Other roles include water and sanitation engineers, disaster management experts, nutritionists and communications delegates.

The greatest concentrations of delegates are based in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Sudan.

On occasion, desks will also contract advisers and consultants who are sent to provide expertise and support to Federation or ICRC programmes overseas.
