RED CROSS DELEGATES DEPLOYED TO BAHRAIN

Two British Red Cross delegates are en route for Bahrain to offer practical help and emotional support to Britons caught up in the pleasure boat capsize that is thought to have killed at least 57 people. Red Cross volunteer Dr Sarah Davidson (35) and Briony Thomas, a Red Cross Services Advisor in southeast England and a former nurse, left London’s Gatwick airport at 11am this morning as part of a Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Rapid Deployment Team that is expected to arrive in Bahrain at 21:00 hours local time tonight.

In the run up to World Water Day (22/03/06) the British Red Cross is appealing for donations to help support its work in drought stricken Horn of Africa, following reports of animals polluting scarce supplies of water and even attacking people at water points in Somalia.
