In 2005, we helped people caught up in 26 overseas disasters. Working with local volunteers, 108 relief experts delivered shelter, food and clean water to hundreds of thousands of survivors.

We also traced 683 families separated by natural disasters and conflict, and delivered 550 Red Cross Messages between loved ones.

In the UK, we supported 24,000 people affected by emergencies, including 5,800 victims of fire. We responded to 41 major incidents and now have more than 8,200 trained volunteers available in an emergency.

Red Cross first aiders treated 28,000 casualties at public events, trained 125,700 people and raised awareness of life-saving first aid skills among nearly 200,000 others.
