In 2005, the world responded more generously to people’s humanitarian needs than at any time in recent history. Emergency aid reached at least £8.9 billion – outstripping any other year on record.
RED CROSS DEPLOYED TO ASSIST BRITONS AFFECTED BY SAUDI ARABIA BUS CRASH

Two British Red Cross support staff leave the UK today (Wednesday 13 December) for the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah to provide practical help and emotional support to Britons affected by last Saturday’s coach crash in which 3 British people died and 25 others were hurt. It is understood that the coach, which crashed in Rabegh, 55 miles north of Jeddah, was carrying Hajj pilgrims from Medina to Mecca.
RED CROSS RETAIL RECORD

The British Red Cross last week achieved a best ever week for sales through their 350 charity shop chain. Income was an incredible £70k better than the previous record set at the beginning of November. Last year’s averages have been greatly surpassed, as the average shop takings were £400 more this week than those achieved so far this year.
