Tesco staff to be awarded at Wembley Stadium
Tesco staff who have put their all into fundraising for the British Red Cross Charity of the Year partnership will be recognised for their efforts at an awards ceremony at Wembley Stadium later this month.
Over the past few weeks, Tesco staff have been nominating their colleagues who they think deserve an award for their outstanding contribution to the British Red Cross. It was no surprise when Tesco employee Peter Sewell was short-listed for one of the best fundraising individual categories. | |
| Not only did he run two marathons – one in Dublin and one in New York – he ran them both in one week and raised £4,000. One colleague said: “The feat itself was amazing, but to do so in two continents in seven days, and manage to come into work in-between, was unbelievable.” | | | | |
After hearing he was nominated for an award, Peter said: “It was a real surprise but it was really nice to have some recognition.”
Courageous Another well-deserved nominee, Julian Maude, impressed his colleagues by organising and taking part in numerous events throughout the year. His biggest challenge was possibly a skydive, when, despite his fear of heights, he jumped 10,000 feet from a plane. Throughout the year, Julian raised £6,000. He said: “I’m really chuffed to get into the top three. If I won, I’d be ecstatic but I won’t worry too much if I don’t because I know a lot of people did some amazing things for the Red Cross throughout the year.”
There are ten categories altogether, including best fundraising team and best volunteer. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 27 February at a British Red Cross awards ceremony at Wembley Stadium in London.
