Volunteering opportunities
| The Dance for life team are looking for volunteers who are keen to gain experience in performing arts both backstage, front of house and technically.

In this role you will be heading up the backstage team. Knowledge of stage management is preferable. For people who are studying or have a passion for drama and theatre arts and want to gain more professional experience this is an ideal opportunity.
Your role will include:
- Coordinating the technical rehearsal and the evening performance
- Directing the technician
- Coordinating the dancers and the MC on and off the stage
- Coordinating the backstage team
- Ensure the overall continuity of the show.
In this role you will be the face of Dance for life. You will be responsible for engaging the audience throughout the show. Experience in public speaking is ideal. The ability to ad lib is essential!
Your role will include:
- Introducing the dance groups on and off stage
- Delivering key Red Cross messages and educate the audience on the work of the society (you will be given this material)
- Coordinating the raffle on stage
- Announcing the winners and coordinating awards and judges
- Transmitting excitement and passion about the Dance for Life event
- Communicating with the stage manager to ensure the overall continuity of the show
Stage hand and backstage coordinator | Top | In this role you will be in charge of coordinating the dancers backstage. This is a key role in ensuring the continuity of the show.
Your role will include:
- Ensuring all dancers get on and off stage at the correct time
- Coordinating props on and off stage
- Coordinating the finale line
Front-of-house manager | Top | In this role you will oversee and coordinate the front-of-house staff.
Your role will include:
- Answering any queries volunteers or customers may have
- Ensuring the audience are inside the auditorium for the start of the show
- Communicating with the stage manager to ensure continuity
- Collecting all the front of house money throughout the evening
Other front-of-house volunteering opportunities available include:
- selling and distributing tickets
- checking validity of tickets on the door
Brochure and raffle sales | Top |
- encouraging the audience to purchase merchandise on the evening
- assisting people to their seats inside the auditorium
- selling and serving refreshments before the show and during the interval
In this role you will be assisting a professional technician in running the show. You will be in charge of operating either sound or light to meet the specifications of the performers.
Your role will include:
- Assisting the head technician in setting up the theatre for the evening
- Ensuring you have all the correct music and light specifications from the performers
- Running the sound and/or lights for the technical rehearsal and the evening performance
In this role you will be in charge of making a creative DVD of the evening’s entertainment that can be sold as merchandise. Having access to the appropriate video equipment and editing facilities to produce a DVD is essential (expenses will be reimbursed). Your work will be used on the web and to promote the Red Cross' work.
In this role you will be in charge of photographing and printing a picture of each group on the evening. Having access to the appropriate equipment and printing facilities (expenses will be reimbursed). You will also be asked to photograph the live show from which photos will be used for the website and press releases.
Dance for Life events coordinator | Top | In this role you will be responsible for assisting our Dance for life team in organising the event and liasing with participants.
Your role will include:
- Contacting schools, youth groups and dance groups to take part in the event
- Booking and viewing theatre venues
- Promoting the dance for life event through press released and websites
- Sending out Dance for Life material
All front-of-house volunteers are given a seat free of charge to watch the show.
