Door-to-door fundraiser: Laura Seward

Laura Seward - as a door-to-door fundraiser 1 © BRCSLaura Seward, aged 25, works as a door-to-door fundraiser. She’s a fan of cheesy music, all things Swedish – and is taking part in a summer campaign to persuade nearly 7,000 people to support the Red Cross. Miriam Jones finds out more.

Q: What’s the best thing about your job?

A: Being out and about, talking to different people all day. No day is ever the same. It’s also good to know that I’m raising money for a worthwhile cause.

Q: And the worst?

A: Slanting rain! We knock on up to 120 doors a day and walk miles. It can be pretty tough when it rains.

Q: Which three famous people, living or dead, would you most like to invite for dinner?

A: I’d ask John Lennon because I’d like to hear his views on current political affairs – and Brad Pitt for obvious reasons! I’d also be interested to meet Marilyn Monroe.

Q: If you won £1 million, what would you spend it on?

A: I would probably buy a nice house and a car and give some away to charity. I’d also take everyone in my office on holiday, as they work so hard, they deserve it!

Q: What is your favourite holiday destination?

A: Sweden. I’m not a big fan of hot countries. I first went with my parents when I was ten – as they have some friends there – and have been back several times since. The lakes and mountains are beautiful and it’s a very relaxing place to go.

Q: What is your fondest childhood memory?

A: I have this vivid memory of going on a family picnic wearing a bright, white dress and shiny patent leather shoes. I fell into the biggest, muddiest puddle in the field and completely messed up my outfit. My parents were so embarrassed. That story just about sums me up, actually!

Q: What superhero power would most help you to do your job?

A: Super speed, so I could speak to more people.

Q: What is your pet hate?

A: Closed-minded people – who can’t see anyone else’s point of view except for their own.

Q: What song is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor?

A: It has to be really cheesy! Probably something like “Do you love me” from Dirty Dancing.

Q: What is your motto?

A: Never give up. It definitely applies to my job!
