By having their donations come straight from their salary before tax, people effectively increase the value of their contribution. For example each £10 donated will only cost £7.80 (assuming tax is paid at 22 per cent). The Inland Revenue gives up the tax it would otherwise have kept.
Luke Tredget, British Red Cross campaigns officer, explains: “The great thing about payroll giving is that the money comes straight out of the salary and is tax efficient so in effect your overall donation costs you less. You can start, stop or change the amount of your donation at any time.”

E-cards for Christmas
Do you feel that sending corporate Christmas cards is time-consuming and costly, and that the money could be spent on something more worthwhile?
Did you know that over half of the customers you send Christmas cards to this year won’t even know who they’re from? And 75 per cent of executives think money spent on Christmas cards is better spent on giving to charity? (The Survey Shop Jan 2004)
The British Red Cross’ Christmas e-card is the perfect way to send seasonal greetings to your staff, clients and suppliers while demonstrating a visible commitment to the life-saving work of the British Red Cross.
