Red Cross celebrates its volunteers
| It's Volunteers' Week (1 - 7 June) - a chance to say thank you to our amazing volunteers for giving up their time to help people in crisis.
Volunteers turn out after a full day’s work to provide services that make a huge difference to people caught up in crises. | |
| In Anne Eadie’s case, she frequently finishes her job as Red Cross service manager for the West Highlands of Scotland and goes straight on to tackle more work for the organisation – but this time as a volunteer. | | | | |

A nurse by training, Anne has worked from Kyle of Lochalsh for almost 10 years, initially as a volunteer, then as a staff member. Today, the ‘day job’ blurs into her additional stints as a volunteer. And with husband Jim and daughter Lauren (18) also volunteers, there’s no getting away from Red Cross talk even at home.
Help during floods
In fact, the whole family is part of the Red Cross’s only emergency flood relief and rescue team, which travelled to Gloucestershire last summer to ferry emergency supplies to people hit by the floods there.
Anne was recently the subject of a profile in the West Highland Free Press, where she commented: “How many people get to help others through their work?”

Charity shop volunteers
The Red Cross is also promoting retail volunteering opportunities for young people during Volunteers' Week. Launched a year ago, the Certificate in Retail Skills and Retail Innovation Fund have proved very popular.
