DHL Wetherspoon staff have fundraising fun day

12 July 2008

One of Birmingham’s biggest employers opened their doors in July to raise money for the British Red Cross.

Staff at DHL Wetherspoon distribution centre invited members of the public to join them on Saturday 12 July for a family fun day to raise money for the charity.

The action-packed day featured family activities including a 30 ft climbing wall provided by the army, gladiators, site tours and the chance to drive a truck provided by DHL’s own fleet of vehicles.

Staff at the site have pledged to raise £20,000 in 24 months for a medical loan vehicle for the local area.

Social responsibility

DHL Wetherspoon general manager Peter Campbell said: “Here at the DHL Wetherspoon distribution centre, we take our corporate and social responsibility very seriously and do our very best to ensure that we support the local community through both community based projects and charity fundraising.

"By focusing on local projects we know that both the money raised and our time and effort all go back into the community we serve.”

He continued: “This year marks our second site fun day in support of the Red Cross, who are raising money for a medical equipment service vehicle that should make a significant difference in helping the Red Cross improve their support of the Daventry community.”

Red Cross fundraising manager Steve Hunt said: “The support we have received from DHL Wetherspoon has been fantastic and enabled us to make such a difference in our community. Through the medical equipment service vehicle, we will be able to deliver items of medical equipment such as wheelchairs right to people’s doorsteps, giving them freedom and independence.”
