Support the Red Cross Disaster Fund

BRCS Helicopter 1 © BRCSProject summary

There are few humanitarian organisations that respond as quickly to disasters as the Red Cross.

When a crisis strikes, speed is essential and since our volunteers and staff are recruited and trained locally, we are usually the first organisation at the scene. However blankets, tent, medicines, food, water, sanitation are all needed immediately, not within a week but within hours of the tragedy happening. This is why we introduced the Disaster Fund in 2001, to ensure we can react to any situation in the quickest possible time.

Project details

The Disaster Fund is unique in that it contains money we can use in the immediate aftermath of a disaster or conflict, anywhere in the world. The Disaster Fund complements our emergency appeals as it gives us the flexibility to respond to any disaster or conflict straight away.

It also enables us to provide aid rapidly to disasters or conflicts which don’t capture media attention, and are therefore not suitable for emergency appeals, but are every bit as devastating for those affected by them. The fund provides an essential lifeline to people when they need our help the most. It is a crucial part of ensuring our procedures are geared to an immediate emergency response. As part of the world’s largest emergency response organisation, it is vital that we have the means to fulfil our role in times of need.

A major donation today will allow us to continue to provide immediate emergency aid around the world wherever the next disaster strikes. The only absolute known fact is that the Disaster Fund will be needed soon. Please give whatever you can to help us be ready.

We value the support we receive very highly. The Red Cross has a permanent presence in communities across the world through our sister National Societies. We can therefore provide assurances that our donations are secure.

We invite supporters to become as involved in our work as they wish to, so they understand the impact their contribution makes to the lives of the people we help. We want our supporters to feel as much of a sense of ownership and pride in the Red Cross as we do.
