Want to become a virtual volunteer? We’re looking for people aged 15 to 25 who can use their social networking skills on Facebook or Bebo to spread the word about our work. If that's you, sign up to be a Red Recruit.
Not only will you be able to show your support for our principles and work, but you will also be able to connect with other young volunteers and have a chance to tell us what we’re doing right and what we should change about the way we work with young people.
How would I be helping people? As a Red Recruit, you could help us promote and improve our work with vulnerable people by:
- helping us spread the word about our appeals, campaigns and local fundraising events on your own social media profiles
- taking part in polls and quizzes or giving us feedback on any new functions we plan to introduce
- participating in volunteering activities we organise locally for young people or at specific events
- giving us your feedback on our initiatives, particularly those aimed at people aged 15 to 25, for example via our Bebo and Facebook profiles.
What do I need to become a volunteer? You should be aged 15 to 25 and:
- sign up to our fundamental principles (which are described here)
- opt in to receiving emails requesting your support for our appeals and campaigns
- display the Red Recruit badge of support on your profile.
How much time do I need to give? You can give as much or as little time as you can. Fit your volunteering around your studies or work.
Why should I volunteer with the Red Cross? You will be the first to be advised of our internships and any suitable volunteering opportunities based in our London offices – a great way to build your work experience on your CV and expand your networks.
You will have exclusive access to expert web talks (webinars) or Q&A sessions from the organisation. This is a great way for you to learn about the influential work we do around the world and a unique opportunity to ask questions, such as how our experts got into their jobs, what degree path they took, or what kinds of experiences are needed to get similar jobs.
There will also be offers to participate in fun events. Recent examples included helping with a skydiving event in Hyde Park, and a tsunami photography exhibition in London. You will always be given relevant training and support for any specific events.
