Girlguiding UK partnership set to launch

19 September 2008

On Tuesday 23 September, the British Red Cross is launching a two-year partnership with Girlguiding UK, which will focus on teaching young guides first aid and citizenship skills.

The Changing the World programme will see Guides across the country working on projects in partnership with 18 leading UK charities.

The British Red Cross’ contribution to the project – entitled The Power of Humanity – comprises a series of eight downloadable resources that teach important lessons in a fun and interesting way. Topics covered include first aid skills, responding to emergencies and humanitarian citizenship.

Power of humanity

Mairi Allan, head of schools and community education, said: "We want to mobilise the power of young people to be humanitarian citizens wherever they are – and the Girl Guides share our vision.

“Our programme will enable Guides to learn more about emergencies, both in the UK and overseas, and develop the skills to cope and help others in crisis."
