British Red Cross schools first aid website wins award

Just five months after its launch, the British Red Cross Life. Live it website, has scooped the prestigious IVCA (International Visual Communications Association) Clarion Award in the website category.


The exciting and innovative site which provides primary schools and teachers with free, easy-to-use first aid teaching resources was this week bestowed with the honour by the IVCA, which runs Europe’s biggest industry digital, sustainability, community development and corporate sectors awards.


An elated Liz Brunwin, the Life.Live it project manager said: “The Life. Live it website provides a window to offer teachers some first aid material through a variety of approaches such as video, interactive activities, discussion, quizzes, drama, practical activities, drawing and more. It offers all the basic first aid skills that are easy to learn, presented in a colourful and engaging way to encourage kids to learn.

“The online world has become a very critical platform for us to communicate with schools, teachers and education authorities in order to get them involved in our work and campaigns. We are most delighted and thrilled to win this award and view it as recognition of the sound objectives this resource aims to achieve,” she added.


The British Red Cross launched the free first aid teaching resource for all primary school teachers, tailor-made for teaching first aid skills to children aged 5 to 11 in early May this year.


The charity’s Life. Live it site aims to provide simplified functionality, better access to information and integration with social media channels. Teaching packages on the website were developed to bring first aid to youngsters through learning in the classroom and outside school.

The IVCA Clarion awards recognise excellence in communicating the importance of CSR, diversity, sustainability, community development, ethical, health and welfare issues in the public, charity, social enterprise and corporate sectors.


This month, the British Red Cross has been campaigning to get the government to adopt first aid and humanitarian education in the schools curriculum. The charity has been taking its message to the three main party conferences, hoping to persuade politicians of all political shades of the importance of a fully rounded education. An online petition, allowing teachers and parents to register their support for the call with their local MP has to date attracted over 200 calls.
