Majority of humanitarian needs in Syria not being met, says British Red Cross

The rapidly deteriorating situation in Syria means humanitarian needs are not being met, says the British Red Cross. The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is reaching close to two million people every month, but given the expanding crisis this now only accounts for 35-40% of those in need of aid.

More than 90 percent of secondary school students would like to learn first aid training in school; and would feel more confident helping a friend or family member needing first aid if they received the training, reveals an ICM poll commissioned by the British Red Cross published today.

Today the British Red Cross are sending out an emergency response team with urgently needed sanitation equipment for people affected by recent floods in Mozambique.

s fighting escalates in Mali, the Red Cross is making efforts to restore contact between families that have been displaced by the conflict. In the UK, the British Red Cross works to re-establish links between Malian nationals living in the UK and their loved ones affected by the fighting in the West African country.

Three years on from Haiti’s devastating earthquake, the British Red Cross has been helping to rebuild the neighbourhood of Delmas 19, Port au Prince, in a community-led project. Haiti’s earthquake of 12 January 2010 killed more than 230,000 people and left 2 million homeless. The Red Cross Red Crescent launched their biggest single country response in the immediate aftermath, sending 21 emergency teams to provide food, water, shelter and health support.
