BRCSixty representatives from across Cambrige, Norfolk and Suffolk took part in an emergency response exercise today, organised by the British Red Cross and Norfolk Major Incident Team (NORMIT) as part of Business Continuity Awareness Week.
Participants – who were from local emergency services, council, utilities and voluntary sector organisations – worked together to combat a fictitious flood.
Flooding scenario
Speakers from a diverse range of organisations – including the Met Office, Environment Agency, EDF Energy Networks, BT, Anglian Water and NORMIT – provided an excellent and informative event.
Simon Holmes, emergency response and resilience manager, said: "It was a resounding success. The event showcased the strength of the ongoing partnership working between the British Red Cross and other organisations across East Anglia and the rest of the UK."
Emergency awareness
The Red Cross and a range of agencies also came together for a public advice session in Norwich. Representatives gave members of the public practical information on what they can do to help themselves in an emergency. The Environment Agency provided people with information on whether their home was in a flood risk area as well as advice.
