15 May 2009To celebrate their 140th anniversary, Sainsbury’s are taking nominations to find a local Charity of the Year for each store – and your vote could be crucial. The supermarket chain is encouraging customers to nominate a local charity to be the official charity partner for each store for the year.
Vote by 26 May
The poll closes on 26 May, so to make sure that the British Red Cross is in with a chance of being Sainsbury’s local Charity of the Year in as many stores as possible, you’ll need to cast your vote before then. You can do this by:
- filling in a nomination form when next in Sainsbury’s, available at customer service desks
- filling in a nomination form (PDF) from the Sainsbury’s website and dropping it in when next in Sainsbury’s.
Patricia Dillon, community fundraising support manager, said: “I really encourage everybody to vote in their local Sainsbury’s. It only takes a minute and it could be worth thousands of pounds to your local Red Cross services.”
A shortlist of three of the nominated charities will be asked to visit the store and talk to colleagues about what they do and how their local Sainsbury’s team could support them.
The store will then choose their Local Charity of the Year and announce it to customers in June. The store will work with and support the charity throughout the year by volunteering and fundraising.
The nomination period ends on 26 May.
