Our 325 shops are putting on special events throughout the fortnight to meet the £1.25 million challenge. You’ll find anything from late-night openings and quiz nights, to raffles and Christmas fairs. Many shops have been saving up stock for exclusive themed sales including the Chelsea branch’s annual designer and vintage sale on 26 November, which last year raised £16,221 in just five hours, and £40,000 over the week.

Buy Eric Clapton’s clothes

Debbie Elliott, assistant manager at the Chelsea Red Cross shop, said: “This year, we have some amazing items – a Vivienne Westwood handbag, Jimmy Choo shoes, and a Chanel handbag donated from Harrods lost property. Eric Clapton has even donated some of his own clothes and a signed CD!”

Other highlights include:

  • a fashion show, children’s tombola and Christmas stall in Eastbourne on 4 December
  • a bingo evening in Lymington on 4 December
  • and Christmas fairs in New Romney on 2 and 5 December.

Make this fortnight a record-breaker

The 100k-a-day challenge replaces the previous two years’ Million Pound Fortnight, which raised £1.1 million in 2007 and £1.2 million in 2008.

Paul Thompson, retail general manager, said: “We are preparing for a record-breaking fortnight. Please donate any good quality unwanted goods to your nearest Red Cross shop and support them as they go the extra mile during the challenge.”
