Our annual Humanitarian Citizen Awards, sponsored by Canon, celebrate the contribution that young people – whether individuals or groups – make to the lives of others. They might help in many different ways – by fundraising, giving first aid, campaigning for a good cause or befriending those who need a little extra support.

There are four categories to choose from for both individuals and groups: first aid, volunteering, community action and fundraising. The Marsh Awards have also generously donated £1,500 to help the young winners either celebrate their achievements or accomplish even more through their humanitarian work.

If you know a young person or group that you think deserves recognition, then nominate someone today. It only takes a couple of minutes and the closing date – Friday 23 July – is fast approaching.

Inspiring young people

On 2 October, all lucky short-listed nominees will be invited to the V&A Museum of Childhood in London for an exclusive awards ceremony where the overall winners will be announced.

“So many young people act selflessly, whether as carers for family or friends or by stepping in to help strangers in an emergency. Many others show their initiative and creativity by managing to raise lots of money for good causes, even during this recession."

Previous finalists have included beat young ambassadors, a group of young people with experience of eating disorders who help other young sufferers, and Vikki George (24) who – despite being bedbound with severe ME – set up the Post Pals website to encourage others to send cards, gifts and emails to ill children.

As the deadline approaches, Robin is urging people to show some support. He said: “By spending just a few minutes filling out an online nomination form, you could help some young heroes win a prestigious award and really make their day.”
