Help Red Cross shops raise £4 million by Christmas

Man and woman being served at Red Cross vintage shopThe seven week countdown to Christmas has begun and Red Cross shops are poised for the challenge of raising £4 million before the big day.

All 320 shops, 680 staff and 6,500 volunteers are joining forces and pulling out all the stops to reach the £4 million target. There will be special events and promotions galore including a host of late-night Christmas celebrations, and vintage and retro specials.

Many of the shops have been saving stock all year, including eveningwear, collectibles, toys, books and vintage items, for special themed nights. There will also be plenty of events such as fashion shows, art sales and craft fairs – there’s even a Downton Abbey evening in Chelsea.

A perfect reason to shop

Paul Thompson, head of retail, said: "This is a time to shop in a lively, friendly atmosphere, where there truly could be something for everyone. And of course, it always comes with the added bonus of knowing that all your shopping will be helping vulnerable people in their time of crisis. What better reason to shop?”

Money raised from the Countdown to Christmas challenge will be used to fund the Red Cross' work in the UK and around the world. Spend £10 on a party dress and the Red Cross can train someone in life-saving first aid. Spend £3 on a stocking filler and it can buy a jerry can to store drinking water free from life-threatening disease, like cholera, in east Africa. Every penny spent will help save and change lives.
