We recognise the strength that diversity brings. Differences such as gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, religious belief, age, culture, physical appearance and national origin are recognised and celebrated.
We produce a monthly e-newsletter for staff and volunteers called ‘Diversity’. This features news, articles and personal stories. It shares the work of the diversity team and promotes diversity and equality within the Red Cross.
A range of volunteers and staff form the diversity group. They are consulted on diversity matters and they champion diversity-related initiatives and activities.
While we appreciate that people from different backgrounds bring new skills, ideas and experiences, we also recognise that these differences can result in unfavourable treatment or discrimination. We are firmly committed to challenging discrimination and striving to achieve equal access for all.
Recruiting, supporting and developing Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) staff
We are committed to improving how we recruit, support and develop Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) staff. Our corporate strategy includes a commitment to increase the percentage of BAME staff to 12 per cent by the end of 2019.
We ran a research project to identify how we can address the under-representation of ethnic minorities in our workforce.
