Photo gallery: our work in the First World War

Following the outbreak of war in August 1914, the British Red Cross and the Order of St John worked together, calling ourselves the Joint War Committee. Using the protective emblem of the red cross, volunteers helped thousands of wounded and ill soldiers in the UK and abroad.
