Nobody can predict the exact location of the next flood, cyclone, earthquake or violent conflict. But when they happen, the Red Cross must be ready to act as soon as we're needed.
Thanks to the Disaster Fund, we can make sure we're ready to give people the help they need in an emergency – whether it's food, shelter, healthcare, or another form of support.
In December, we released £140,000 from the Disaster Fund to support life-saving relief efforts after Typhoon Washi in the Philippines. The money will provide life-saving aid, including food, blankets, sleeping mats, jerry cans and shelter, for thousands of people who have been made homeless.
Money from the Disaster Fund has also been used recently in the UK, with £22,500 being spent in Scotland to help vulnerable people during severe winter weather, funding the distribution of heaters, blankets, bottled water, hygiene packs and food.
We have also recently released £175,000 from our Disaster Fund to help thousands of people who fled their homes because of violence in Sudan, £100,000 to support Red Cross relief and emergency health activities in Syria and £200,000 to help people, many of them children, affected by serious drought in Kenya.
