In December 2012 The Crerar Hotels Trust made a very generous donation of £5,000 towards the British Red Cross Transport and Escort Service in Argyll and Bute. Every year this service improves the quality of life of hundreds of vulnerable and isolated people living in remote rural areas and island communities.

Therefore, every year it assigns almost half of its distributable profits to the Crerar Hotels Trust for allocation throughout Scotland and Northern England. Donations are made to many varied and deserving charities and community groups from areas near Crerar Hotel locations. In 2012 the Crerar Hotels Trust made approximately £360,000 worth of donations to more than 120 groups for charitable causes, one of which was the British Red Cross.
The Transport and Escort Service in Argyll and Bute provides people with the means to attend medical appointments, social events and do everyday essentials, such as going to the shops or the post office, which they would be unable to do without this service. For those who have health and mobility problems, the service is nothing short of a lifeline.
Few individuals in these areas own cars, as many are on a low income. Where public transport is available, it is often unreliable and frequently does not run during school hours.
The Transport and Escort Service by contrast does not adhere to a timetable and is flexible to the users’ needs. Ninety-four per cent of users felt it would be difficult or impossible for them to find an alternative form of transport and more than 65 per cent of our users are repeat customers, who make regular use of the service.
It is only thanks to the support of donors like The Crerar Hotels Trust that the Transport and Escort Service in Argyll and Bute can continue to improve the lives of people living in isolated areas.
