How do I know if a fundraiser is genuine?

If you come into contact with someone fundraising for the Red Cross, it is almost certain they are genuine. All fundraisers must carry and display an ID badge. Here is a full guide to recognising our fundraisers.

Legitimate door-to-door fundraisers will be:

  • wearing a red tabard, red polo shirt, jacket or gilet with the British Red Cross emblem
  • displaying an AGS or British Red Cross identification badge with their name, photo and ID number
  • carrying a letter of authority from the British Red Cross.

How to recognise a street fundraiser

Legitimate street fundraisers will either be:

  • wearing a red jacket, hooded jumper or t-shirt with British Red Cross branding
  • displaying a British Red Cross identification badge with their name and photo

How to recognise a private site fundraiser

  • displaying a British Red Cross or Care2Give identification badge with their name, photo and employee number
  • fundraising next to a British Red Cross stand.
