How it works
Who can take part?
Anyone aged four to 18 can take part, regardless of their ability. Primary and secondary schools, colleges, youth groups and groups with members who have a disability are all welcome – it’s for anyone who likes to dance.
There are two age categories:
- Junior - for young people aged four to 11.
- Senior - for young people aged 12 to 18.
To keep the competition fair, every child taking part in the event must fall within the appropriate age category at some point within the current academic year.
How many people can take part in our dance?
There is a maximum of 30 dancers per group. Although the majority of our entries are groups, we do welcome soloists as long as they have a DBS checked chaperone who can accompany them to the event.
Who will I be competing against?
Anyone aged four to18 can take part, regardless of their ability. Primary and secondary schools, colleges, youth groups and disabled groups are all welcome – it’s for anyone who likes to dance.
When and where?
The competition takes place in venues across London and the surrounding areas between January and July. To see a list of events please visit our registration page.
Spaces at our heat events are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The finalists from each heat go on to perform at the Grand Final of Dance: Make Your Move at Indigo at The O2 in London.
There isn't an event in my area what can I do?
If you are unable to travel to an event we encourage you to hold your own dance event in aid of the Red Cross. Register online to receive a free Make Your Own Move pack with everything you need to get started making your moves count for people in crisis. You will also be put in touch with a dedicated Dance: Make Your Move coordinator who will be able to provide advice, inspiration and support planning your event.
How do I enter?
Registering is easy, simply fill in our online form.
If you prefer to register offline, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to request an offline registration form.
What about the dance?
All dances must be between 3 and 7 minutes long and based on some aspect of the Red Cross’ work – that could be anything from First Aid to the Earthquake in Nepal. Once you register you will receive a teachers' pack with more information about planning your dance. You can also visit the Planning your dance section of the website which provides a few examples.
What about the fundraising?
We ask all groups to raise as much as they can to support the work of the British Red Cross. The judges will present awards to all groups who raise over £100. The Fundraising Awards presented during the event are:
- Bronze Fundraising Award – to all groups that raise more than £100.
- Silver Fundraising Award – to all groups that raise more than £250.
- Gold Fundraising Award – to all groups that raise more than £500.
- Platinum Fundraising Award – to all groups that raise more than £1,000.
All groups that receive a Platinum Fundraising Award and submit the funds raised to the Dance: Make Your Move Team by the deadline will be entered into a prize draw for the opportunity to do a guest performance at the Grand Final of Dance: Make Your Move at Indigo at The O2 in London. Terms and conditions.
Will you help me?
You will have a dedicated Dance: Make Your Move coordinator who will be happy to help with fundraising ideas and inspiration to create your dance. If you don't know who your coordinator is please e-mail email@example.com
