Mini Olympics

What is it?

  • Keep fit and raise money for the British Red Cross!
  • Gather your friends together and hold your own mini version of the Olympics.
  • Raise money by setting a suggested donation for people to pay to join in (maybe £1).

What you’ll need

  • A date for the mini-Olympics
  • A place to hold your event. The type of sports you plan to do will affect where is best to have it.
  • Plenty of friends to take part in the competitions
  • Any equipment you might need: balls, bibs for teams etc – see if you can borrow these if you don’t have your own
  • Permission from your youth leader or teacher
  • A camera so you can take lots of photographs
  • A way of making sure everybody knows about it so that they can join in. Think about how you can do this – maybe using posters, newsletters or announcements
  • A safe, sealed or lockable place to keep the money you raise
  • Someone who can write a cheque for the amount you raise

Top tips

  • You could sell refreshments to raise even more money.
  • If it's a hot day make sure all your athletes have plenty of water to drink.
  • You can decide on the events you have – they could be ones for teams, just for individuals or a mixture of the two.

All about the money

  • Ask people to donate their money at the start of the day – it’s easier to collect then.
  • Once the event is over and you’ve collected all the money, post us a cheque (made payable to the British Red Cross) for the amount you raised, along with a copy of the banking form from the module five facilitator's notes. Our address details are also on the same page as the form.
  • If you have any questions about sending us money or want to ask for other advice, please contact our fundraising team on 0844 412 2728 or getfundraising@redcross.org.uk
