Make every £1 worth £1.25
If you're donating stock to one of our shops, ask the team about Gift Aid. Gift Aid makes every £1 worth £1.25. For every £1 we sell an item for, we can claim back 25p from the government. Just fill out one simple declaration form and your stock donations can help the Red Cross reach more people in need.
To be eligible for Gift Aid you must be a UK tax payer. A member of our shop team will give you a unique Gift Aid ID number and card. You’ll need to show the shop team your card whenever you make a stock donation, or clearly mark your ID number on your stock donation bag.
What is Gift Aid on stock?
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) allows registered charities to claim back 25 per cent of donations received from individual tax-paying donors on the price of items sold. HMRC regulations state that before we can make this claim, we must write to all of our gift aiders to confirm they wish to donate this money to the Red Cross.
Full terms, conditions and HMRC requirements are available in-store or to download on the right-hand side.
What to expect
You will receive a letter in the post, or an email, with an update from the Red Cross whenever we make a claim.
We would love to be able to contact as many people who claim Gift Aid as possible via email, because it saves the Red Cross the cost of postage. Please send us your email address giftaidstock@redcross.org.uk

Will I need to inform the Red Cross if I move house?
Yes. Please contact us by telephone 01752 696 110 or email giftaidstock@redcross.org.uk to let us know your new contact details. If we cannot contact you, we will not be able to claim Gift Aid from HMRC on your stock donations. If you are moving house and having a clear-out, just take any items you wish to donate to your local Red Cross shop.
Can I put a Gift Aid declaration form in the post to the Red Cross?
No. Gift Aid declaration forms must accompany stock donations. If you would like to fill out a Gift Aid declaration form in advance, then please put your completed form into your donation bag and clearly mark the bag ‘Gift Aid’. The Red Cross shop will process the form, and either hand you your donor ID card or post one to you.
Do I need to inform the Red Cross if I am no longer a UK taxpayer?
Yes. Please contact us by telephone 01752 696 110 or email giftaidstock@redcross.org.uk to let us know. If you are not a UK taxpayer we are unable to claim Gift Aid on your stock donations, but we will still gratefully receive them. If you have any concerns about tax, please contact your local tax office or financial advisor.
Will the Red Cross pass my contact details on to a third party?
No. Your contact details will only be used by the Red Cross to write to you about Gift Aid. Writing to you about Gift Aid is a legal requirement by HMRC. To find out about what the Red Cross is doing in the UK and internationally, or to be kept in the loop about events at your local shop, make sure you tick the boxes on the declaration form.
Does the Red Cross have to contact me every time a Gift Aid claim is made to HMRC?
Yes. By law we have to do this. Help us keep our postal costs down by providing us with your email address. You can help save on postage costs by collecting the card.
