According to the Health Protection Agency (New HIV Diagnoses report 2010), there were 6,136 reports of new diagnoses of HIV in the UK in 2010 – that's 16 people every day.
In 2009, an estimated 86,500 people were living with HIV in the UK, about a quarter of whom were undiagnosed (Health Protection Agency report 2010).
There have been much improved survival rates since the introduction of effective anti-retroviral therapy and earlier and increased HIV testing.
