What we do
Our services are delivered by highly committed staff and volunteers who are carefully recruited, CRB-checked, competency assessed and fully trained to work with adult service users.
We already work extensively with commissioners and providers – we currently have 200 health and social care contracts across the UK – and support more than 175,000 service users each year.
Tailored support
The Red Cross offers personalised support for adults of all ages, but primarily focuses on older people and those living with disability.
Our combined services can be tailored to meet specific commissioner needs. We also have extensive experience of working within multi-agency frameworks to ensure service users have the best possible experience while in our care.
Our services
Re-ablement
We provide intensive support after someone returns home following a period in hospital or residential care, or after a serious illness or onset of disability.
Hospital and care admission prevention and assisted discharge
We can form part of a multi-agency response to help a vulnerable person avoid entering hospital or a care home, or to get them out of statutory care more quickly.
A&E support
Working in partnership with hospitals, we can provide practical and emotional support to patients and families at accident and emergency departments.
Home from hospital
We can provide basic support for people when they are discharged from hospital.
Domestic and personal care
We can provide time-limited practical help, and in some areas we are registered to provide personal care for particularly vulnerable people.
Wheelchairs and other medical equipment
We provide time-limited loans of wheelchairs and other equipment, such as commodes or bath seats.
Transport
We can provide transport for people who cannot get around by themselves due to illness, disability or injury.
Supporting people
We can provide generic floating support services, including time-limited
help to vulnerable people or community groups – such as travellers or refugees – who may find it hard to access traditional services.
Therapeutic massage
This is generally offered as part of a broader service – gentle hand, neck and shoulder massage can help relieve stress and pain, and promote wellbeing.
Medication prompting
We can help people follow a scheme of medication without the need for full-time care or hospital admittance, whether through regular visits or telephone calls.
Partnership and signposting
We have experience of working in partnership with other providers and agencies, and are able to signpost to additional support
