This year’s British Red Cross IHL Summer School will run from 15 – 18 July 2012 at Magdalene College, Cambridge.
The course will cover the principles, rules and practical application of IHL, including
- the history and development of IHL
- protection of the wounded, sick and shipwrecked
- combatants and prisoners of war
- protection of civilians
- human rights and IHL
- non-international armed conflicts
- implementation and enforcement of IHL
- the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Presenters are likely to include experts from the armed forces, prominent academics and a representative of the ICRC. The course will comprise presentations, case studies and group discussions.
About the British Red Cross IHL Summer School
Our IHL Summer School is a residential three-day course that runs every two years. In the past, attendees have included members of the armed forces, government officials, university lecturers, law and international relations students, staff of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), journalists, and National Red Cross and Red Crescent Society volunteers and staff from outside the UK.
Cost
The course costs £300, including accommodation and meals at the college.
