You're waiting for a plane. The flight crew walk past. You think you smell alcohol on the pilot's breath. One or two fellow passengers say they noticed too.
What do you do?
Here's what happened when one woman reported it to the flight attendant. The story is told in the short US news report below. The pilot tested negative for alcohol and the woman was asked to leave the flight. She was offered food and hotel vouchers and took a flight the following morning.
Encourage students to think through the key issues in this story.
- Where are their sympathies? Do they understand why a flight crew might not want an unhappy passenger on board?
- What would students do in the woman's position? Would they speak up or hope someone else did? Would they want to avoid possible humiliation and personal inconvenience? Or does safety always come first?

Role play the scene, working out the dialogues people are likely to use in such a situation. Improvise a drama for performance, perhaps for an assembly.
