School speaker programme

The Red Cross can provide speakers on a wide range of current themes – such as child soldiers, disaster response and the rules of war – to engage young people from a humanitarian perspective. Our trained volunteer speakers deliver interactive presentations and support teachers by focussing students’ attention on humanitarian and citizenship issues, which have relevance right across the curriculum.

Symposium

The Justice and fairness symposium is a day long role-play activity event which gives teachers and students the opportunity to explore international humanitarian law by stepping into the shoes of different parties involved in armed conflict. Through participation in this fictional scenario, young people can develop their team work, debating and critical thinking skills.

The next symposium will be held at Allen and Overy LLP in London on Wednesday 2 March 2011. It is open to teams of ten students aged 14-16. For further information please contact Linda Barclay at lbarclay@redcross.org.uk

Taster sessions

The Justice and fairness education programme also offers taster sessions to schools and other educational organisations.  To see if there are taster sessions available in your area, please contact us giving basic information about your location, type of organisation and the proposed event/session at which you would be interested in having a taster session.  Please contact lbarclay@redcross.org.uk
