Disaster Fund

Disaster preparedness

Our Disaster Fund allows us to respond immediately when major disasters strike.

When ethnic violence broke out in southern Kyrgyzstan, forcing as many as 100,000 people to flee to Uzbekistan, we gave £100,000 to provide relief supplies and help refugees, as well as to help those affected in Kyrgyzstan.

We recently released £35,000 to help people affected by Tropical Storm Agatha, which wreaked havoc in Guatemala.

Thanks to our Disaster Fund, earlier this year, after a massive earthquake in Chile, we immediately released £50,000 to support the emergency response effort.

How your donation could help:

Water buckets
£5 could provide water purification tablets to 60 people
First Aid kit
£18 could provide two first aid kits, used during an incident like the London bombings
Kitchen kits for the population in Lebanon
£25 could buy two family kits for people affected by a natural disaster
First aid volunteer
£50 could help train a volunteer to respond to emergencies here in the UK

Nobody can predict the exact location of the next flood, cyclone, earthquake or violent conflict. But when they happen, the British Red Cross must be ready to act within hours not days.

In January, we responded immediately to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, releasing £200,000 to support the relief operation, helping people get food, shelter and medical assistance as quickly as possible.

We have learned from experience that being prepared can play a major role in saving lives, protecting vital economic assets and safeguarding the livelihoods of vulnerable people.

Without the generosity of people like you, we wouldn't have been able to be there and make a difference to thousands of people when they most needed help. By supporting our Disaster Fund, your money will be used as soon as it is needed, anywhere in the world.

Help us be ready in advance and save lives the next time disaster strikes, please make a donation today.
