Door to door Fundraising

Door to door fundraising is one of the most effective ways of recruiting supporters to the Red Cross. Every year tens of thousands of people happily agree to a regular gift after speaking to one of our fundraisers, and next year is going to be our biggest yet!

We have been carrying out door to door fundraising with an external agency since 2004. In this time we have enjoyed massive success, with tens of thousands of new supporters signing up to a regular gift. What’s more, door to door fundraising has allowed us to reach people that we haven’t been able to through other methods such as mail and television.

As well as raising millions of pounds for our projects, door to door fundraisers take news of our work to thousands of people in all parts of the country. To help ensure that our fundraisers are knowledgeable ambassadors for the Red Cross, we go to great lengths to teach them about our history, ideals and projects.

How to recognise a Door to Door Fundraiser

If you come into contact with someone claiming to represent the British Red Cross, the overwhelming likelihood is that they are genuine. If you need reassurance that a fundraiser is legitimate, please consult the following information.

A British Red Cross Door to Door fundraiser 3 © BRCDoor to door fundraisers wear a red or black tabard with the British Red Cross emblem, they will have a Fundraising Initiatives identification badge on display and they will be carrying a folder containing British Red Cross literature.

A list of postcodes that our door to door fundraisers will be working in is updated weekly and can be seen by clicking here. 

If a postcode is not included please do not assume that a fundraiser is bogus, as occasionally fundraisers can cross over into the next town or village by mistake. If there are fundraisers in an area not listed please contact our Supporter Care Team on 0844 87 100 87, who will be able to verify the legitimacy of a fundraiser. Alternatively, after consulting the postcode lists, please contact the relevant agency helpline - 0800 018 3584 for Support Direct or 0800 018 9961 for Fundraising Initiatives.
