British Red Cross provides vital first aid cover at the Greater Manchester Marathon
Thousands of runners at the Greater Manchester Marathon, on Sunday 28 April, are in the safe hands of the British Red Cross this year.
The Red Cross will provide:
- Over 60 highly-skilled volunteers, readily available to provide vital first aid
- 7 first aid posts
- 4 Red Cross ambulances
- 5 Red Cross first aid bicycles
If contestants or spectators need help during the 26.2 mile run, the Red Cross, who are working alongside Manchester Medical Services, will be there to assist in an emergency.
The Red Cross successfully treat more than 20,000 people a year, at various events across the UK.
Red Cross event first aid service manager, Christiane Ambler, said: “Our group of event first aid volunteers travel all over the area, always ready to help in any situation. The marathon is a particularly brilliant opportunity for them to take part in such a well-known and fun event.
“While our volunteers are highly-skilled and have gone through extensive training, anyone can take just a couple of hours to learn basic life-saving knowledge. There’s even a Red Cross first aid app for it!”
After last year’s event being clouded by bad weather, Sunday is set to be miles better and the Red Cross are excited to be involved, both covering the first aid at the event and also raising vital funds for their services.
There are currently over 20 runners from the Greater Manchester area running for the Red Cross – raising money and then kindly donating it to the wide range of help the Red Cross provides in the North West. Local services include emergency response, care in the home and mobility aid loans, refugee support, first aid learning and many more.
