Be part of the big event with Red Cross
The Red Cross is looking for people in the Alloa area who can rise to the big occasion.
It’s a chance to become part of the humanitarian organisation’s team providing first aid cover at some of Scotland’s biggest events.
The Red Cross is looking for volunteers interested in learning first aid and lifesaving skills and going on to help keep people safe at festivals, galas and other major public occasions.
Catriona Herd, Red Cross people and learning manager for the area, said: “It’s a great opportunity to be part of all sorts of events. In the past, our teams have been called in to provide first aid cover at T in the Park and various other music festivals, the Papal visit to Scotland and countless smaller community events throughout Scotland.
“Our Event First Aid (EFA) volunteers get the opportunity to go along and enjoy some great occasions and to do something very worthwhile at the same time. It’s all about helping people to stay safe and enjoy their event.”
Event First Aid volunteers also work in support of the Scottish Ambulance Service at these events.
No prior experience is given and volunteers will be fully trained.
Learning first aid isn’t difficult and isn’t time consuming. EFA volunteers only need to commit to around six days’ worth of training and induction in their first year – as well as attending a few events as required.
Catriona Herd added: “The Red Cross realises that people lead busy lives and takes a very flexible approach to volunteering. The value of learning lifesaving skills can’t be overstated. It’s not just the people who learn first aid who benefit – their families, friends and communities benefit too.
“This is a chance to meet new people, learn new skills, be part of a team and get to attend some great events.”
The local Red Cross first aid group meets at Glasshouse Loan, Alloa, every second Wednesday.
Training for new volunteers will start on Wednesday 6 March at 7.30pm.
Anyone interested in joining the Event First Aid team should contact Catriona Herd by email at CHerd@redcross.org.uk or by telephone on 0131 338 5700.
