Shop while you rock - with the Red Cross

The British Red Cross is setting up shop at the popular Eden Festival in Dumfries and Galloway.

It’s the first time the humanitarian organisation has been at Eden and festival goers will have the chance to browse through a wide - and keenly priced - range of charity shop chic clothes.

As well as the exciting assortment of modern, retro and vintage fashions, there will also be festival essentials such as ponchos and wellies on sale at the Raehills Meadows site.

Katie Thomson, Red Cross area retail manager, said: “We have run shops at music festivals before and they’ve always proved very popular. This is the first time we’ve been at the Eden festival and we’re very excited about it.

“We’re putting a lot of emphasis on recycled clothing to persuade people to think twice before throwing things out. Recycling is better for the environment and can be an important source of income for the Red Cross, helping us continue our work here in Scotland, elsewhere in the UK and abroad.

“There is a growing demand for retro and vintage clothes and Red Cross charity shops are the ideal place to go if you’re looking for unique and reasonably priced fashions.

“Since we can never be sure about the weather in Scotland, we’ll be making sure there’s a good supply of wellies and ponchos for sale and mobile phone chargers for those wanting to keep in touch with friends not attending the Eden festival.”

Staffed by six volunteers, the Red Cross shop will l be open every day from Friday 15 June till Sunday 17 June.

Notes to editors

Last year in Scotland, the Red Cross:
• Responded to 444 emergencies including those caused by flooding and extreme winter weather.
• Trained 33,167 people in life saving first aid skills
• Enabled 32,850 people to live more independently through health and social care services
• Helped 571 people through refugee services
• Worked with teachers to reach 22,863 young people with humanitarian education
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies.

We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.
