The British Red Cross charity shop in Buckingham Palace Road will be holding a series of events to coincide with Red Cross Week, the charity’s annual fundraising drive which takes place between 5 – 11 May.

Loyal customer of the shop, which opened in November, are invited to its Summer Collection preview evening on Thursday (9 May). Holders of charity’s ‘Give and Gain’ loyalty card can browse the new summer stock while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine and nibbles.

Members of the public can also attend the event by signing up to the charity’s ‘Give and Gain’ scheme. The card is the first of its kind within the charity retail sector, allowing customers to gain points in exchange for their purchases as well as enabling them to easily gift aid their stock donations.

Shop manager Tim Briggs said: “There will be some really fantastic bargains on offer next week when we display the new summer stock. We’ve been holding back some real gems for the occasion, such as designer clothes and some rare books, so there will be some very happy customers.

“We are inviting people to come along and take a look at what the shop has to offer. We get some lovely quality donations and some really quirky items so it’s definitely worth the visit. We will also be offering a 10 per cent discount over the three days which will also please those looking to snap up a bargain.”

As well as the new stock launch, the shop will be holding an open day on Friday (10 May) where local people can chat with staff about volunteering opportunities within the Red Cross and learn more about local services. Customers can also enjoy a therapeutic massage – a service that fully trained Red Cross volunteers offer to people at times of personal crisis to help reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being.

And there will be a fundraising theme on Saturday (11 May) with the staff and volunteers joining in with the fun of Red Cross Week.

Charity shops are a vital source of funding to support the work of the Red Cross. All the profits generated form the shop go towards helping people in crisis situations – whether that is responding to a large-scale emergency overseas or to fund Red Cross services that help people much closer to home.

The shop, located at 22-24 Buckingham Palace Road SW1W 0QP, offers for sale second-hand clothing, books and multimedia items. The shop relies on volunteers to ensure that donations are sorted and cleaned, the shop is well presented and customers receive excellent service. This, in turn, leads to the smooth running of the shop and helps the Red Cross raise valuable funds.

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies.

We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.
