BRCA team of nine young people pushed three wheelchairs ten miles around Winchester and Basingstoke to raise over £500 for the British Red Cross. The sponsored push was part of Red Cross Appeal Week.
Through a combination of collecting donations on route from generous members of the public and a sponsorship campaign among friends and family, the £300 target set for the push was smashed in style thanks to the great enthusiasm of the team.
The idea for the fundraising roll came as part of Hundred to Hundreds, a new project within the Red Cross youth division. Its aim is for young volunteers to organise an event to raise as much money as possible with a budget of £100.
The route from Winnal to Basingstoke station also took in the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke where an exhibition is being held celebrating 100 years of the Red Cross in Hampshire.
Dedicated and passionate volunteers
Mike Baxter, youth and schools manager for the Red Cross in Hampshire, said: “We are lucky in Hampshire to have some really dedicated and passionate young Red Cross volunteers. They have worked really hard to put on this fundraising event and their hard work will ensure that noone need face a crisis alone in Hampshire."
