Beautiful jackets from Red Cross charity shop© InfoThis year’s 100k-a-day challenge – the fortnight where our charity shops try to raise £100,000 every day – starts on Sunday with a jam-packed programme of events.

From Christmas-themed nights to vintage fairs and fashion shows, our 323 shops have plans to suit everyone.

Things got off to a winning start on Thursday when the annual Chelsea and Kensington designer and vintage sale raised over £8,000 on its first night. Sales at the pre-launch event included a £500 Christian Lacroix coat and a Mulberry handbag that went for £600.

Paul Thompson, head of retail, said: "Our £100k-a-day challenge is all about shop teams going the extra mile to raise as much money for the organisation as we can. There are some fantastic events planned and I expect high streets nationwide to be brightened with plenty of Red Cross ribbons and balloons.

"Last year we managed to raise around £1.25 million and are hoping to do at least the same this year. So to all our customers, old and new, make sure to visit our shops and join in the fun – you’ll be making a difference to the lives of people in need and you might just find a bargain too!"
