Artwork by Grayson Perry, Ken Loach and Lily Cole helps raise over £5000 for Syria

21 March 2016

Artists, celebrities and supporters including Grayson Perry, Ken Loach, and Lily Cole designed artwork to mark five years of the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

A selection of the postcards, which were auctioned on Sunday night, raised more than £5,300 for our Syria Crisis Appeal.

Star of BBC1 drama Shetland Mark Bonnar and comedian Shazia Mirza also created artworks for the Postcards for Syria project, alongside Syrian artists and illustrators such as Tammam Azzam, Mohammad Omran and Diala Brisly.

The eBay auction ended on Sunday evening. The postcard created by Grayson Perry went for £2,373, while Ken Loach’s card raised £325.50. All funds raised by the auction will go to the our emergency appeal to support relief work in Syria and the region.

Ted Tuthill of the British Red Cross said: "We are hugely grateful for everybody’s contributions – both the artists and everyone who took part in the auction.

"The funds raised will help to bring urgently needed aid to Syria, supporting people who are affected by this devastating humanitarian crisis.”

Schoolchildren and supporters across the world joined in with the project.

You can view a selection of the postcards in the gallery below.
