Tesco has supported us for the past decade. It has donated over £10 million in financial support to our emergency appeals.
The partnership began in 2007, when we were Tesco’s Charity of the Year. Since then, our engagement has deepened to include an emergency agreement that supports our work both in the UK and overseas.
In the UK, our emergency response teams are able to request items from Tesco stores that help us support people in crisis. This can mean supplying pallets of bottled water to a Red Cross rest centre following an incident such as an evacuation from a block of flats or providing food for residents isolated in their homes by severe weather or flooding.
Ten years after Tesco made a major donation following the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004, it became a founding member of the Disaster Relief Alliance – a British Red Cross initiative. The Disaster Relief Alliance aims to bring about closer engagement with the private sector in our humanitarian activities, providing financial support before crises occur.
