I heard about Dance: Make Your Move through a friend and thought it sounded like the perfect opportunity as it combined my two main interests – dancing and events management.
My role was stage manager and I basically had to make sure that everyone was in the right place at the right time and that everything ran smoothly. When you’re talking about 150 young people, that could be quite a challenge, but I loved it.
It’s such a buzz. You never know what might happen or what might go wrong. You really have to keep on your toes. But I loved that – finding solutions to problems and pulling it off. It felt fantastic.
Valuable professional experience
I’ve trained as a dancer myself andf this helped with the stage management, as I know what people want and what they expect. I’m also studying events management at university so that helps, but really I think I learned more from Dance: Make Your Move than I will at uni – it’s the practical experience that counts the most.
I’m definitely hooked on Dance: Make Your Move. I think it’s brilliant. The kids get a chance to perform, I get excellent experience, and we all raise money for a good cause – there’s nothing bad about it.
