These extensive gardens surround a 14th-century Grade 11 pele tower. Beautiful, mature woodland provides valuable protection on both the east and west sides. Well-established rhododendrons and azaleas offer vibrant colour interest in early summer. Planting includes shrub and herbaceous borders that surround a 2-acre lawn. Some beds were planted in the 1980s but those beside the East Wing have been redeveloped over the last two years. The terrace walk runs along the top of a quarter mile ha-ha offering stunning views to the south over Kirkharle Estate, birthplace of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. The terrace leads to a 2.5-acre Georgian walled garden, the home to Perfect Produce – a commercial business growing vegetables for the restaurant trade. The walled garden also includes an orchard, and cut flowers and vegetables for use in the house.
