These food collection drives – led by Tesco, FareShare and The Trussell Trust – take place twice a year.
Last year, volunteers helped collect a tremendous 5.1 million meals for charities Fareshare and The Trussell Trust to help those affected by food poverty in the UK.
Help thousands of people
It’s easy: volunteers simply hand out shopping lists at Tesco stores and ask customers if they might consider buying a couple of extra items to donate, such as a tin of soup or some pasta.
This collected food is then redistributed either by FareShare (to over 1,290 UK charities) or The Trussell Trust, which has more than 400 food banks.
It only takes a few hours to be part of a huge effort to help thousands of people who sadly struggle to get by at meal-times.
Children aged under 18 (or 16 in Scotland) must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
