Make every £1 worth £1.25.
If you're donating stock to one of our shops, ask the team about Gift Aid.
Gift Aid makes every £1 worth £1.25. For every £1 made from a sold item, we can claim back 25p from the government.
Simply complete a Give & Gain form in one of our shops, ensuring that you sign the ‘Agreement to Gift Aid’ section. Your stock donations can help the British Red Cross reach even more people in need.
To be eligible for Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer. A member of our shop team will assign you a unique Gift Aid ID number and Give & Gain card. You’ll need to show the shop team your card whenever you make a stock donation, or clearly mark your ID number on your stock donation bag.
What is Gift Aid on stock?
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) allows registered charities to claim back 25 per cent of donations received from individual tax-paying donors on the price of items sold.
Full terms, conditions and HMRC requirements are available in-store or to download on the right-hand side.
What to expect
The Red Cross will Gift Aid your stock donation, in line with all the current terms and conditions. We are only required to write to you should your donated sales exceed £1,000 during any single tax year.
An annual statement of sales is available. You can request this by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or writing to: British Red Cross, Princess Court, 23 Princess Street, Plymouth PL1 2EX. Email is preferable because it saves the Red Cross the cost of postage.
Frequently asked questions
Will I need to inform the Red Cross if I move house?
Yes. Please contact us by telephone on 01752 235 110 or email email@example.com to let us know your new contact details. It is important that we have the correct details so your Gift Aid can be claimed correctly. If we cannot contact you, we may not be able to claim Gift Aid from HMRC on your stock donations. If you are moving house and having a clear out, just take any items you wish to donate to your local Red Cross shop.
Can I put a Gift Aid declaration (Give & Gain form) in the post to the Red Cross?
Yes. You can download a Give & Gain form from the link on the right-hand side of this page. This can be included in your bag of donated items, handed into one of our shops, or posted to your nearest Red Cross shop.
Do I need to inform the Red Cross if I am no longer a UK taxpayer?
Yes. Please contact us by telephone on 01752 235 110 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know.
If you are not a UK taxpayer, we cannot claim Gift Aid on your stock donations – but we will still gratefully receive them. If you have any concerns about tax, please contact your local tax office or financial advisor.
Will the Red Cross pass my contact details on to a third party?
No. Your contact details will only be used by the Red Cross.
Does the Red Cross have to contact me every time a Gift Aid claim is made to HMRC?
No. We will only contact you should your donated sales exceed £1,000 during any single tax year. You can keep postal costs down by providing us with your email address. You can also help save on postage costs by collecting the Gift Aid card.
