On a recent Holland America Cruise that visited Grand Turk, we spoke with the president of the local Red Cross about starting a "volunteer vacation" program for those getting off ships who might work for the day (or other vacationing people). Any luck starting this?

We went to Cuba last year and felt it was a great honor to meet such wonderful people, we were due to fly back to Cuba on the 10th Sept but it was cancelled due to Ike, also the complex we were staying at in Holguin was flattend, I just feel sorry for all the people out their and the Aid workers. It does amaze me that the Holiday companies are still selling holidays for April 2009 to Cuba?

Hi Patricia! I'm sure you know the weekend of the Hurricane we also had flooding in Morpeth. I found it very interesting to read about the way you are working with local volunteers and how everyone in the community is doing whatever they can to support each other. This is just the same in the North-East where local Red Cross volunteers are co-ordinating the work with other voluntary organisations and members of the local community who are all pulling together at this time of crisis. Across the world and around the corner really rings true. Good luck with all you are doing and our best wishes to everyone. Take Care!

I’m sorry that it’s taken so long to post comments in the last two days. Staff shortages meant we were unable to check the moderator’s email as often as we would normally like.

Ask Patricia and Clive Evans about the 260 Chinese they evecuate from Middle Caicos. There are not even one Chinese living on Middle Caicos. There are not even 260 persons living on that island much less chinese.

You all are so unfair. Why don't you all print all the blogs that you all are receiving? You all know that she is just speaking part truth. Speak the whole truth patricia

Patricia, you need to get your facts straight before you put false information to the world. You were not in a shelter. You were in the EOC Emergency Operation Center, if you know what that mean. I was one of the person in that building. There were no screaming in the building much less outside. Who would have been outside in such a storm. The roof of the building was still intact on our return to the building. I thaught the Redcross came here to work along with the Government and not to work against them. All these reports should have been cleared with Government before you all send to the world such false information. What are you all here for? To put the country down? In future I would recommend that you get your facts straight before you send them out.I hope you are going the work you came here to do and stop getting in business that does not concern you. I hope you display this message so that Patricia will not print false information again.

I am disgusted at what Patricia has written in her Blog. It so happen that I was working in the Department of Disaster Management and Emergency of which the "EOC" is operated from. This was not a "shelter". The children there, were children of employers who were on duty in the "EOC". And we did made a safe evacuation. We are thankful and grateful for the wonderful job Patricia and her team is doing over here.

Having just read Patricia's blog I felt moved to offer a message of support. The blog was so descriptive it really gave a sense of how frightening things must have been there. The fact that there is a really close knit community and that people really want to help shows that the power of humanity lives strong and together you are doing a brilliant job of supporting one another. Best wishes and Good Luck
